HonedHub.com founder David Law has worked in education for years, so it was firsthand that he learned that trying to connect with learning and development (L&D) specialists was time-consuming. David had been interested in educational technology for a while, but (tell me if you’ve heard this one before) he didn’t know how to code. Bubble helped David clear that roadblock and enabled him to build his professional L&D marketplace application with no-code—four months faster than he projected.
Tell us about your app and what it does.
I set up HonedHub.com to make it easier for people to connect and work with freelance specialists in the learning and development space.
I’ve worked in education for many years now and have sat on both sides of the fence. I’ve spent days searching for the right freelancer to support my projects, and working as a learning consultant, I have spent even more time searching for opportunities that align with my skills and experience.
This is where Bubble came in: providing me with a route to quickly build out a solution to this problem.
How does your app work?
Simplicity has been my goal. People seeking specialists create a free account, post a job, and wait for the proposals or offers to start rolling in. It is as easy as that.
Freelancers will send proposals telling you a little bit about themselves, how much it will cost, and any other info you’ve requested, right to your Honedhub.com dashboard. You can manage jobs, pay for your work, chat, and share files with hired freelancers all through the safety of the app. Simple!
Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.
I’m from the UK, and I’m a learning and development consultant by profession, supporting L&D teams and sector skills companies. I’d done a load of research in the EdTech space and knew that this was where I wanted to go. Problem was, I didn’t know how to code!
I enrolled in an online course to “learn to code,” thinking this would be the answer, but I kept being pulled away for work. I stumbled on the game-changer that is Bubble through a development forum talking about how to quickly and easily build out a minimum viable product without breaking the bank.
Why did you build your app on Bubble?
I landed on Bubble as the no-code solution of choice quickly, actually. The attraction was the shallow learning curve, the great community, and the speed at which I could build out my ideas. Building HonedHub.com on Bubble took around two months end-to-end, which, given the functionality, is unbelievable. Even now, I continue to be really impressed with both the potential and flexibility that Bubble offers.
Has HonedHub.com celebrated any milestones so far?
Two big milestones for me so far: first, launching HonedHub.com four months earlier than expected (almost entirely due to how easy it was to build out the site). The second big milestone is how quickly the first L&D freelancers signed up; everyone has said how simple, clear, and easy to use the app is.
What are your future plans for your app?
The goal is for HonedHub.com to become the destination for anyone looking for freelance instructional designers, classroom trainers, educational assessors, LMS implementation specialists, videographer, translators, and anyone offering specialist learning and development services.
