We asked Crowify founder, Matthew Dykema, about building an app that connects customers to service providers in their local areas. Matthew is from a small farmer's town in Michigan, called the Buchanan Michigan. He has a passion for technology and has developed websites on multiple platforms such as WordPress, durple, squarespace, wix, and Shopify. He chose Bubble because the no-code platform provides all of the features to enable him to build the workflows needed to create Crowify.
Tell us about your app and what it does.
Matthew: Crowify Gig Marketplace is a two-sided Marketplace connecting customers to service providers in their local areas. Crowify was born out of the influx of unemployment due to the affects of COVID-19 and the pandemic we are currently experiencing.
With millions of people unemployed, I wanted to build a platform to connect customers to service providers professionals. There are currently over 300 different service categories ranging from handyman services, dog walking services, and even piano lessons. We encourage everyone- not just those affected by the pandemic- but anyone that is looking to generate passive income, to join.
How does your app work?
We currently have two sides of our marketplace- A “gigster" and a “proster.” Crowify "proster" is a service provider looking to offer services to local customers. Crowify "gigster" is a customer seeking professional services.
When a gigster arrives on the platform in search of a service, Crowify provides them with over 300 different services to choose from. Once the service is selected, the gig begins. The gigster provides details on the budget, time and date, location, project details, and photos about what their perfect gig would entail. These details are used to match the perfect service provider.
Crowify prosters are service-providing professionals seeking to make income. Once the user signs up as a proster, the service professional provides their own history and work experience details, upload photos of past projects, and provides their company details.
Once a gig is created the secret sauce is activated. Crowify algorithms match the Gig to a local service provider with over 150 different data points. If there is no direct match, the gig will be listed on our Crowify marketplace for service providers to pick up.
Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.
I love the idea of creating something from nothing, launching it to the world, and watching it grow. There is nothing more exhilarating than having an idea and being able to develop it within hours. I consider myself somewhat of a technical genius as I am very integrated with all sorts of technologies, including AI and deep learning. I guess you can say I have a passion for learning new technologies.
I heard about Bubble through Y Combinator startup School in 2019. When I came across a form about no-code app building, I said to myself "oh it's just another drag and drop drop wix knock off". To my absolute surprise, it was not.
Why did you build your app on Bubble?
I knew I wanted to build something to help the people who were laid off in my local community find work. I dabbled around with a couple different ideas and decided to launch my marketplace on Bubble. I dove full-head, right into the bubble platform and never looked back. I knew that if I learned the no-code technology, it would serve multiple purposes later down the road.
Bubble is a true revolutionary and breakthrough platform.
What have been your successes or milestones so far?
I had my first MVP up within three weeks of landing on the Bubble platform. I did a complete 180 pivot during Y Combinator startup school. My previous company was built on WordPress, and I pivoted to Bubble to build Crowify Gig Marketplace. I hit the ground running with Bubble.
I started showing my friends how they could launch gigs on the marketplace and word-of-mouth took off. Crowify added over 500 gigs from my local region in just the past 60 days. We paid out over $7,000 since our launch, with our average gig price costing roughly $300.
What are your next steps or future plans for your app?
My plan is to scale the application by hiring a few engineer's and raising a VC finance round.
