We asked Find Plasma Donor founder, Vaibhav Thakkar, about building an app that connects plasma donors with COVID-19 patients in India. Vaibhav works on a strategy team of a media conglomerate in India. In his free time, he builds an effective mentoring ecosystem for Indian youth. He chose Bubble because the no-code platform gave him control over his app and enabled him to deploy the app on a quickly to address the pandemic without having to code.
Tell us about your app and what it does.
With the rising COVID-19 cases in India, more and more doctors are relying on Plasma therapy during treatment of patients. To get the Plasma, one will need to arrange a Plasma Donor. Unlike blood donors, finding the right plasma donor is a mammoth task. Plasma therapy is a time sensitive process whereas finding the right Plasma Donor is a time consuming and a stressful process. To solve this mismatch, we have started a website: www.findplasmadonor.com. This website acts as a platform to connect the plasma donors and patients in need.
How does your app work?
There are two main CTAs on the landing page – one for plasma donors and one for COVID-19 patients. Anyone who wants to donate plasma can register on our website as a Plasma Donor. We connect with them to check their eligibility and explain the further processes.
If the doctor has prescribed plasma therapy for the patient, then a patient/ relative can register on our website. In 90% cases, we reach out to them within 8 minutes. After understanding the urgency and validating the authenticity, we share the contact details of the relevant donor with the patient/ relative.
Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.
Professionally, I work in a strategy team of a Media Conglomerate in India. Moreover, during my off-office hours, I have been building an effective mentoring eco-system for Indian youth using a mentoring platform, MentorsGrid. To increase the reach and effectiveness of the platform, I was looking for freelancers to build an app for MentorsGrid. During this time, one of my friends suggested that I go through some of the no-code platforms. And since then, I am a fan of Bubble. I believe no-code platforms will take tech empowerment to the next level.
Why did you build your app on Bubble?
The UI of Bubble is seamless. Designing an app, adding workflows, using plugins is as easy as animating a PowerPoint presentation. This reduced my turnaround time to a great extent. I could come up with an MVP in just a couple of hours.
Despite not having a tech background, Bubble gave me control over my app. Modifying and updating the app in Bubble is also very simple and I can deploy the app on a real-time basis.
What have been your milestones or successes so far?
We launched our website on April 1, 2021. Till date, 3,350+ patients, 750+ plasma donors and 200+ volunteers have registered. We have successfully facilitated 100+ Plasma donations. City Police have also teamed up with us as a trusted partner. However, the most satisfying part and biggest achievement is that we have saved lives.
What are your next steps or future plans for your app?
For now, we will continue helping people find plasma donors using this app. For the future, ideally, we would want the COVID-19 situation to normalize and there remains no need for such a platform. However, we will continue identifying the gaps in the system and modifying the app accordingly to solve the respective problem effectively to help more people during this pandemic.
