We asked golifo founder, Laurence Mourasse, about building a "social ticketing" app that helps people connect, network, and unlock event offers that are reserved for groups. Laurence is an ex-corporate in the events industry and a non-technical woman in her forties. She chose Bubble because the no-code platform offers all of the features and tools necessary to build a fully-functional web app.
Tell us about your app and what it does.
Most people do not like to attend events alone…even when the content is great.
Golifo helps people connect early, network, and unlock event offers reserved for groups. It’s a better way to book and attend events that we call “social ticketing” for people in our community. We are starting with business events where networking is very important.
We are a managed marketplace where ticket owners post and manage group offers to use Golifo as a social marketing channel and increase ticket sales.
How does your app work?
Technically, we work like a community, a temporary social network, and like a crowdfunding site, but for group tickets where people only pay and unlock the group offer when the right number of participants is reached.
Attendees: Browse events and groups, Join/Leave groups, Chat and Network, Manage Profiles or Payment methods
Ticket Holders: Create, publish and Manage listings
Payment Management: Stripe Custom integration for both attendees and ticket holders where we also handle payment failures and attendee communications to ensure transparency and fairness.
Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.
I am an ex-corporate in the events industry, and a non-technical woman in my forties turned solo first-time founder – so the odds are not in my favour apparently!
It took me months to decide on Bubble. I looked at all my options from outsourcing code or no code, learning to code, to site builders when creating Golifo. I started with site builders, airtable etc. trying to piece it all together and could not make it work. I had tried Bubble but gave up. During the Covid lockdown, I finally got my act together and learnt with the help on online course from Gregory John and a 12 weeks program with Gaby Roman of coaching nocode apps. I never looked back. I continue to seek help from experts in this journey like Vince from nocodefamily.
Why did you build your app on Bubble?
I knew that for a startup change is going to be constant and fast. I could not partner with a CTO, so I decided to bet on myself instead of giving up or spending all my savings outsourcing something unproven.
I have so much more confidence now. It does not mean that it will succeed, but I am testing and changing my app on the fly when I learn something new. There is nothing I fear I cannot experiment with besides having enough time and energy.
What have been your milestones or successes so far?
Covid has and continues to be brutal for the live event industry, but we persevere in learning as much as possible with digital events as I am unsure of product-market fit. Without Bubble, I probably could not take this long term view frankly.
We have our first offer for a fantastic event with SXSW where groups of 10 save over $100. I encourage you to join!
What are your future plans for your app?
I believe human interactions are good for us and for business and we have a big vision to help people attend events, meet each other, and share valuable human experiences while also supporting event creators get more out of their efforts.
We are going to change the way people and small companies choose and book events. We will help people, small companies and groups with their pre-event experience from A to Z using technology in partnership with event creators and registration platforms. Golifo will be open to all types of events and be platform agnostic.
Our next big feature is to enable leaders and influencers to create and manage their own groups for their friends or audience, by selecting available group rewards. I also want to launch an “instant book” for single tickets when groups are not successful or support event exhibitors and sponsors in making the most of their ticket allocations.
However, I need to pause, focus, and work one step at a time without getting discouraged. I could spend all day on Bubble as a playground instead :)
