We asked Hidden City Hunts founder, Adam Lack, about building an app that allows users to play interactive scavenger hunts on their mobile browser.  Adam has a background in the live entertainment industry. In his free time, he loves developing systems and trying various online tools and platforms. He chose Bubble because the no-code platform enables him to build and launch a fully functional and customizable web app without any limitations.

Tell us about your app and what it does.

Adam: Hidden City Hunts provides interactive scavenger hunts that can be played on a smartphone while exploring new places. Users can choose which trail to play and book it through our website. We currently have one real-world and two online trails that users can choose from. By solving cryptic clues and finding hidden gems, players move through our trails, while learning interesting facts along the way.

How does your app work?

When new users land on our app, they can explore our scavenger hunt trails. They can read the descriptions and also look at our public leaderboards for each trail. After signing up, users can book a trail and pay via Stripe. Then they will receive their trail link to play on their smartphone.

No app is needed as the trails are all played via the phone's browser. When the trail begins, players receive their first cryptic clue and move forward by submitting their answer. Scoring for each game is recorded using both a points and time system so that players can decide how they would like to rate their achievement.

Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.

My background is in the live entertainment industry, which is probably as far away from the world of apps and programming as anything could be. However, I've always loved technology and developing systems, and I spent all of my spare time trying out various online tools and technologies. I came across Bubble in 2016 and have been hooked ever since.

Why did you build your app on Bubble?

Bubble has allowed me to build a fully functioning web app with absolutely no experience with coding. I love the way that I can iterate quickly, make changes, and have those changes live within minutes. My mind works in a very logical and systematic way, and Bubble's interface perfectly matches that, which allows me to actualize all of my ideas with very few limitations.

What have been your successes or milestones so far?

Hidden City Hunts has only recently gone live after a short closed beta phase. I've had some great feedback and several people playing our trails, both online and offline.

What are your next steps or future plans for your app?

I plan to keep expanding the selection of available trails while also further developing the app to include new features. I am always encouraging, and looking out for, feedback from my users to further guide the next stages of my app development.
