We asked FreeTime founder, Josh Johnson, about building an app that helps and encourages users to put down the phone and spend time with friends in real life. Josh is a product manager. His team chose Bubble because the no-code platform met all of the specific requirements they had in functionality.
Tell us about your app and what it does.
73 percent of heavy social media users report feelings of loneliness. A whopping three out of every five Americans are lonely. Social media promised to connect us but it has failed to facilitate real friendships. Scrolling through a feed is no substitute for human connection. FreeTime is the opposite of social media. It helps you find time to spend time with your friends in real life, and put down your phone.
How does your app work?
Simply sign up, add in your free time, and send your link to your friends. They can grab time to hang out with you without signing up or downloading anything. If your friends do sign up, you can follow them and always stay up on when they're free, then book a hangout with a quick tap.
Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.
We're both product managers and we had this idea for an app that we were passionate about building. We had designed the whole thing out but lacked the necessarily coding skills required to actually build it. We weren't ready to drop thousands of dollars to pay someone to build it for us, so we started looking into no-code tools to see if they could empower us to build it ourselves.
Why did you build your app on Bubble?
We had some very specific requirements and Bubble was the only tool that seemed like it met all of them. For example, user profile pages with clean URLs based on your username is a key part of how the app works. Users need a nice URL to share with their friends. With Bubble, it's easy to populate a page with user-specific content based on the URL. Most other no-code apps simply don't have this level of functionality.
What have been your milestones or successes so far?
We made it to the #2 slot on ProductHunt on launch day. We quickly received over 500 sign ups and tons of positive feedback on the design and UX of the app.
What are your future plans for your app?
We're going to continue improving FreeTime and adding features that make it easier to connect with your friends. If you have any requests, let us know
