When COVID-19 hit the world, dozens of industries were forced to lay off workers. Yolanda Wu, Founder of No Call No Show, created a platform for hospitality professionals to discover work that might not have been available, or even occurred to them, before. The ability to change anything on the fly with Bubble's no-code web app building platform provided Wu an opportunity to utilize user feedback and continually improve No Call No Show.
Tell us about your app and what it does.
No Call No Show is a platform that was born from the desire to create an inspiring space where diversity exists in terms of job options and to unlock further opportunities for hospitality professionals, present or remote.
Instead of endlessly scrolling through job boards for traditional kitchen jobs, No Call No Show allows users to look for openings to work with food beyond a restaurant setting. We want to bring the types of offers such as remote, research and development, catering, private needs, internships, volunteers, plant-based, beverage and others.
When COVID hit, restaurants were being forced to close, people were being laid off and remote work seemed like a luxury term for tech professionals, with the rising food startups, we want to challenge that belief by providing connections and offering options.

How does your app work?
Up to this date, the landing page of No Call No Show displays the latest jobs, what we do and email alerts sign up. Users can search jobs based on title, location and we strongly encourage users to use filters to choose the desired job types and roles. Both employers and users have to create an account on the platform in order to post a job or apply for a job; employers can edit job posts in account and all users can save their favorite jobs and edit location in account as well.
Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.
I am a chef by profession and my background has been mostly in fine dining. I had an opportunity to go back to school and during a class of e-commerce I became interested in online business. Then I stumbled upon Tara Reed's TED Talk speech where she mentioned how she was able to build her first art startup with Bubble. It was a mind opener to me, next thing I started learning the in and out of no code during the quarantine, especially with Bubble.
Bubble and no code tools have enabled me to not only carry on doing what I love, but also allowing me to learn and grow as an entrepreneur in the digital world.
Why did you build your app on Bubble?
It took some time for me to read through the forums and searched up the most popular no code tools that were available with good reputation and I chose Bubble, mostly because of its flexibility.
To start out the learning curve was steep for me but I actually have been enjoying learning and building on Bubble, you can change anything at any time based on user behavior and test out different workflows. It is a very rewarding experience and I believe I will continue my digital journey with Bubble.

What have been your milestones or successes so far?
It has been exciting because a non-profit organization reached out to us for collaboration on their free online class program and we are more than happy to be part of a good cause for hospitality workers.
At the moment we have been able to bring on some food startups and companies as employers and we are actively growing an audience and getting users onboard.
What are your future plans for your app?
We are in the beta testing phase and currently improving the features that we have.
We plan on bringing new features to improve community engagement, account profiles, highlight interviews of hospitality professionals and food entrepreneurs.
Something that has always been on my mind is to get diverse internship opportunities for culinary students, so they are able to get exposure to different options even across industries, food styling would be a good example.
