We spoke with PanelScout founder, Charlie Poland, about creating an app that helps developers understand their clients’ needs and design taste. Charlie is a non-technical entrepreneur and has had an ongoing interest in startup culture. Rather than pursue traditional programming, he decided to build his project on Bubble and has benefited from the no-code platform’s active community of builders.

What problem does your company solve?

Charlie Poland: When a developer builds a project for a client, it’s often difficult to get a good grasp of the project’s entire scope, and certainly the client’s design taste. PanelScout helps developers by gathering a swathe of important pre-build information from the client on a “panel” that is hosted on a unique URL. The app collects information on the project’s aim and audience, as well as the client’s design and color preferences, and makes it readily accessible for the developer.

How does your app work?

When developers get a new project, they create a new “panel.” They enter the panel’s name, some notes for the client (if they wish), and the client’s email. After filling out the information, the panel is automatically sent to the client, who then simply fills out the requested info. The developer is notified once the client completes the form. The color scheme of every panel is completely customizable, just in case the user wants to match the project to a certain theme.

Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.

From a fairly young age, I have been entrepreneurial, so the whole startup culture was always very interesting to me. I’d tried my hand at coding a few times, since becoming a founder with no technical knowledge can be difficult, but traditional programming just never did it for me. I found Bubble on a forum where another non-technical entrepreneur spoke very highly of the no-code platform. I gave Bubble a go and was immediately hooked.

Why did you build your app on Bubble?

There’s simply no better tool than Bubble for launching a product quickly and easily. The platform itself is incredibly powerful. I don’t think there's ever been a situation where I couldn’t build what I had envisioned. If you need help, fellow builders are always ready to offer advice on the Bubble community forum. With regular updates and new features, the platform just keeps getting better.

What has been your traction or success so far?

PanelScout is a fairly new site (we just launched on Product Hunt!). So far, I have received positive feedback from potential users, whom I spoke with before building PanelScout. At the moment, I’m currently in the process of taking on a freelance client, and will be using PanelScout for my own project!

What are your future plans for your app?

I have just added custom branding to the panels. As for next steps, the app will soon allow users to send customizable questions to their clients. I’m also planning to modify some of the current tabs on the panels.
