We asked Sets founder, Oli Littlejohn, about building an app that enables users to interact with their community through discussions, events, and by sharing their profile. The main goal of the app is to bring a community together with a simple user interface. Oli does not have a technical background, but he has been building the community at thisiscodebase.com for the last seven years. He chose Bubble because the no-code platform offers almost all of the customization options, features, resources, and integrations to build a web app.
Tell us about your app and what it does.
Sets is a really simple community management tool. Whether you run an online community, a co-working space, a meetup, a yoga studio, a church group, a program, etc- it's designed to bring your community together with a really simple user interface. It allows your community to talk to each other, create discussions, find out about your events, and share a profile about themselves.
How does your app work?
There's two types of users - community organizers and community members. For the organizers, they can create new events, moderate discussions, create groups of people, and curate who gets access to the community. For members, they get presented with one page of information that is relevant to them - and can choose to get updates direct to their inbox.
Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.
I've got a non technical background - I've been building the community at thisiscodebase.com for the last seven years. I've played with the well known CMS tools before, but was interested in something with more flexibility that could create the SaaS tool I felt was missing in the community space. I found out about Bubble via nocode.tech, and just started playing with it - I love it!
Why did you build your app on Bubble?
I don't believe any of the other options out there provide the scope that Bubble does, especially around integrations. I love that even with my non technical background I can build something that works with Stripe, Airtable, HubSpot, etc. Endless possibilities!
What have been your milestones or successes so far?
Finishing a working MVP and having people actually use it is amazing - some folks are even paying for it! I've had great feedback from people I've spoken to in the community world. I also taught a workshop on using Bubble to a group of creatives I know, which was super fun.
What are your future plans for your app?
To keep talking to my customers and developing it - for me the user experience is key. I don't want to overload it with features that aren't necessary - I'd rather tighten up the current interface.
