"Get Path from URL" lacks database search logic. The path is treated as text, and we allow it to convert a unique ID for a Thing since each Thing has a different ID. For other fields, there's currently no way to find the associated custom type.
We recommend using the Current Page's Thing instead of "Get Path From URL," which will allow you to pull the Custom Thing using the URL, as long as the Current Page's Thing is set to the same Custom Type as the one in the URL.
For more information on Current Page's Thing, feel free to check out our manual entry here.
