Google Maps (with Drawing/Geometry tools) plus optional integration with What3Words (it can be switched off) and the ability to load telemetry data from GPX/KML files to use with a video player + a whole load of practical features!
The plugin comes with 2 visual elements..

* What3Words search bar (including all API requests)

* A fully customizable Google Map with the 3M square grid overlay (that can be enabled or disabled). It also includes Google’s drawing and geometry libraries making it possible to draw various shapes onto the map.


NOTE ON THE DRAWING LIBARY:

From May 2026, Google are deprecating the drawing library. The replacement for this is TerraDraw, which is included in the plugin.

To switch from using Google's drawing tools to TerraDraw, you can set the "Enable TerraDraw" option.

The drawing tools are fully configurable where you can set any of the options associated with them and support has been added so you may customize your own drawing tools if desired.

All available controls on the Google maps (UI) are also configurable.

The map has a lot of configuration, all the standard configuration that you would normally get plus support for standard/advanced markers, shapes can be used as measuring tools, freehand drawing (for mobiles) and all sorts of calculation options are included.

You’re able to convert any set of latitude/longitude coordinates into a 3 word address and vice versa (given you have the 3 word address), support has been added for different languages and the API requests (both Action and Data) have been included. API requests can return both JSON and GeoJSON data where applicable.

All shapes save the coordinates into states and can be redrawn back on to the map if needed.

You can also use this plugin to import KML data onto a map or load/generate the GeoJSON for shapes and use that to generate your own KML files that will be available for importing into other applications such as Google Earth (shape styling supported). GeoJSON can be used to create both KML and GPX files. It can also import WMS map layers from a valid WMS source.

Recent modifications have been directed around geometry calculations with shapes, buffers areas, distances, square footage etc. Advanced polygons can be drawn where you can split, merge and cut to produce more complex polygons. It's now possible to retrieve any markers/coordinates from within the boundaries of a shape (radius of a circle for example). All shapes can be drawn manually by allowing the user to interact with the drawing tools, or they can be drawn programmatically via means of inputs in the metrics required (meters/feet/miles etc).

Work continues with this and as time goes on, more of the geometry features will be included. It has a lot of advanced map features already, opening up all sorts of possibilities when it comes to interacting with Google Maps on this level.
