Even for seasoned professionals, handling payment paperwork can be an absolute ordeal. Equali is an app that makes it easier for finance professionals to collect and parse payment data. The app, built with a mix of Bubble and automated backend processes, provides its own standardized reporting formats to optimize payment reconciliation processes. We talked with Equali founder and CEO Martin Burn about building Equali and his plans to offer automated services as the app continues to grow.
Tell us about your app and what it does.
Equali's mission is to make payment data work for finance teams. We simplify payment data and provide customers with a single reporting format to optimize their payment reconciliation processes, regardless of how many payment providers they work with. We're also building automated payment reconciliations to save time and hassle for finance teams, as well as helping them reduce the risk associated with manual or suboptimal controls.
How does your app work?
Our online presence is crucial to show customers what we do, and we made the website using Bubble. Our latest product, Payment Data Management, exists outside Bubble as a series of automated backend processes, but in the future, our reconciliation engine will power automated reconciliations, the results of which will be made available to customers on a user interface—among other things. The user interface is going to become a critical component for Equali in the next 6-12 months, but right now, the website serves its purpose: to share our message and create a call to action for finance professionals.
Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.
I studied Economics at university, so I can't profess to being a technical founder in any way! Fortunately, my career has been in product management for FinTechs and other financial institutions, so I can at least understand a lot of technical concepts. Bubble came recommended to me by someone in my network, and as a non-technical founder, it has allowed me to get things set up quickly and focus on other things that I'm a little better at!
Why did you build your app on Bubble?
I've dabbled (badly) with making websites in the past and I was amazed at how easy it was to get set up with Bubble. It's saved me money and time, both critical when starting out as a sole founder looking to launch a product and start generating revenue!
What have been your milestones or successes so far?
The recent launch of our Payment Data Management product is absolutely up there as the biggest milestone so far. The support I've been given from friends and family, former colleagues, potential investors and other founders has also been phenomenal.
What are your future plans for your app?
The next step is to build our automated reconciliation product and our user interface to make reconciliations a cinch for finance teams. We've got a lot to do, but I'm hopeful about the future, and Bubble gives us a great option to keep time and financial costs low so we can focus on bringing value to our customers.
