We asked Tutorpillar founder Ella Persse, about building a tutoring business management platform that hosts every feature needed to run a successful tutoring business. Ella was a financial analyst with a background in economics. She also ran an English tutoring business. She chose Bubble because the no-code platform enabled her to add all of the features she wanted without having to write code.

Tell us about your app and what it does.

Tutorpillar is a tutoring business management platform that hosts every feature needed to run a successful tutoring business. Tutoring is a skill and is mainly passion-driven, and we believe that these kinds of tutors should be paid properly for their services, rather than receiving a small commission from a tutoring company. We are striving to reinvent tutoring to ensure that students are connected with genuine and caring tutors that have standardized pricing, flexible schedules and are personally invested in their success, which is why we are a subscription model and do not take a commission. Our goal is for tutors to improve their lesson efficiency and increase their revenue by offering a more diverse and inclusive range of services.

How does your app work?

We have a double-sided marketplace, so a student would sign up, browse through tutors' profiles until they found the right tutor. They would then be able to see their availability and pricing and book once they have added a payment method.

Our tutors are their own merchants, through Stripe Merchant. Tutors can sign up for free and fill out their profile, set their availabilities and set up their Stripe account before they can take bookings. Users' profiles can act as their own "sites" as shown here.

Once they have completed their profile and signed up for Stripe, they are then visible to students and are ready to be booked. They will be notified when they get a booking, which they can join or cancel at any time through their dashboard. It's as simple as that!

Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.

I was a financial analyst and studying a Bachelor of Economics, while also running my English tutoring business. I had an understanding of what it would take (and cost) to build an app as feature-heavy as Tutorpillar so Bubble was a great solution. I worked with Justas Berzinskas, a Bubble developer, to build it. They can be reached at [email protected].

Tutorpillar founder, Ella Persse

What have been your milestones or successes so far?

Launching has been our biggest milestone and we are excited to see where we go. This is our MVP so there is a long way to go, but our key functionalities are there so now our priorities are improving our user experience.

What are your next steps or future plans for your app?

We have a lot of new features planned and I hope to create a place for tutors to separate their work from the rest of their life and increase their revenue without having to hire other tutors which is a model that has been proven to be unsustainable consistently.
