We chatted with the founder of Avanti, Alex Fantappiè, about creating an app that helps users to hire qualified local high school students for gigs like tutoring, dog walking, car washing, baby sitting, and technological help. As a college student passionate about entrepreneurship, Fantappiè created Avanti to bridge the gap between high school students' need to earn money and the lack of opportunities to get connected for a gig. With Bubble's platform offering fast workflows for both front and back-end app development, Fantappiè was able to create the app he wanted with no code.
Tell us about your app and what it does.
Avanti allows you to hire a local, qualified high school student for help with tutoring, dog walking, car washing, and more. While high school students are just as capable as adults at doing gig-type jobs, they lack opportunities to earn money. On top of that, many big marketplace companies have lost the trust of their customers. Avanti aims to be the safe, affordable marketplace for neighbors to get the help they need while contributing to the next generation of their community.
How does your app work?
A new user chooses what they need help with and is taken to a page of all the student helpers in their neighborhood. Users can view profiles and then choose to request a specific helper or match with the first one available. Helper receives a text with time options, accepts the session, and gets paid.
Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.
I'm a college student who's been passionate about entrepreneurship from a young age. I learned about Bubble last year from a friend when I was looking for a way to create a fully scalable MVP in a short amount of time.
Why did you build your app on Bubble?
I chose Bubble because of the platform's ability to create and change things quickly on both front-end and back-end side was extremely useful. Bubble allowed us to go from zero to pilot launch in under three months while staying in the lead, which was awesome.
What have been your successes or milestones so far?
Our most significant success is launching the app in two zip codes in Los Angeles with 40+ student helpers onboarded to the platform.
What are your next steps or future plans for your app?
The biggest goal would be to increase customer acquisition and boost expansion through Southern California and beyond.
