We asked HackerHouse founder, Stephane Bounmy, about building an app that helps millennials in France find furnished, community housing for an affordable price. Stephane is a full-stack developer working on Ruby on Rails and Javascript. He has worked in startups in San Francisco and Paris. On his freetime, he works on projects like HackerHouse. Stephane chose Bubble because the no-code platform enables him to build any kind of powerful website.

Tell us about your app and what it does.

Stephane: We are solving the housing crisis in urban cities, especially in Paris. HackerHouse promotes a modern lifestyle. The app helps people search for rooms and rent a place for up to eight months. We provide a desk, bed and community to millennials that seek housing.

How does your app work?

If you have a room to rent, you can post your listing as a host on HackerHouse for free. You can also get paid and receive support through the app.

If you’re looking for a place, you can search for rooms through our website. When you find a place that you like, you can click to view more pictures, read the description, read the amenities, and read reviews about the host.

Once you find a room, you can book the room for one to eight months. Moving in is a simple process where you can move in the following day and meet your future roommates.

Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.

I am a full-stack developer working on Ruby On Rails and JavaScript. I worked in different startups in San Francisco and Paris.

When I started HackerHouse, building a platform from scratch was too much of a big task where I had to run the company and code. I started with Squarespace, then on Rails API + React but it was too difficult to maintain. Later the LinkedIn API changed and my users could not apply, so I looked around and found bubble. I love it and since finding the no-code platform, I never looked back.

Why did you build your app on Bubble?

The limits are endless with Bubble. You can really build what you want as long as there is no deep tech or big JavaScript effects.

What have been your successes or milestones so far?

My successes have been 3,000 visits per month and approximately 15k euros worth of transactions per month.

What are your next steps or future plans for your app?

I want to scale on finding hosts so that more users can find housing. I also plan to implement notifications through email, SMS, and through the host dashboard. I also plan to keep making great designs on the platform.
