We spoke to JustOKRs founder, Chris Wagner, about building an app that efficiently manages professional objectives and key results (OKRs) for companies, teams, and individuals. Wagner is also the co-founder and marketing lead at Bananatag, an email tracking software for internal communication. He chose Bubble because the powerful no-code platform saved him time and development costs.

Tell us about your app and what it does.

OKRs are a great framework for focusing and aligning your company around common goals. But most popular OKR software is expensive, bloated, and gets lost in performance management instead of concentrating on making a really great OKR tool. JustOKRs is laser-focused on only making the best OKR tool. Inspired by the ease of using Google Docs or Sheets to track your OKRs, JustOKRs adds the ability to easily score OKRs, assign ownership, and align OKRs across your company.

How does your app work?

When you first sign up, your account will be loaded with demo OKR data so you can better understand the product and how OKRs work. You can then create your own OKRs for the company,  teams, and individuals. Once OKRs are set for a quarter, your team can easily track progress, set the status, and post updates on JustOKRs or using the Slack integration. At the end of the quarter, users can grade their OKRs and share their results with the rest of the company.

Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.

By day, I’m a Co-founder and CMO at Bananatag. We launched in 2012 and since then have grown to over 100 employees while staying mostly bootstrapped. We build software that solves internal communication problems for some of the biggest companies in the world. A friend told me about Bubble six months ago, and since then, once the kids are asleep, I put on my cape and work on "not coding" my app.

Why did you build your app on Bubble?

I keep a long list of product ideas, but I’ve never had the technical skills to build anything myself. And with a company to grow and two kids below the age of five, learning to code wasn’t in the cards. Building on a no-code tool like Bubble not only fills in technical gaps but also provides a competitive advantage with the speed and low cost of development. Those savings are passed on to our end users, so we can charge very little compared to other OKR tools. This also allows us to focus on solving one problem deeply in ways other companies couldn’t because they find it difficult to justify the time and cost.

Chris Wagner, the founder of JustOKRs, built his app on Bubble because of the powerful no-code features that save time and cost.

What have been your successes or milestones so far?

JustOKRs is just getting out of beta but has already been used successfully by startups from 10 to 100 employees in size.

What are your next steps or future plans for your app?

The next step is to build on the momentum and promote JustOKRs to our ideal customer, a startup with 10 - 100 employees running on Google Apps. From a development perspective, the biggest challenge to solve with OKRs is that creating them is hard and time-consuming. I want to keep exploring how to find innovative ways to make creating OKRs as easy as possible. I’ve already started exploring Bubble’s recent integration with the machine learning tool Peltarion, which has the potential to make recommendations to help users write better and more effective OKRs quicker.
