We connected with Mealfu developer, Andrew Agostini, to discuss creating an app that assists meal prep services like Blue Apron and HelloFresh with deliveries. Andrew was trained as a mechanical engineer and has learned a number of programming languages to help him build his consulting business. Bubble helped Andrew get his prototype up and running quickly.
What problem does your company solve?
Andrew Agostini: eCommerce sites such as WIX, Shopify, or Weebly are not designed to support the unique needs of selling meal prep subscriptions online. As a result, many businesses waste time and money by using tools that complicate the online ordering experience. We built Mealfu to simplify the customer’s check out experience, as well as the end-to-end logistics of fulfilling meal subscriptions.
How does your app work?
Mealfu works with delivery drivers, as well as business owners and their customers. Owners use a private dashboard to configure meal plans, pricing, order deadlines, in addition to monitoring orders, deliveries, and revenue figures. First-time customers can create an account and order a week’s worth of meals in less than 2 minutes. To help delivery drivers, we plan to build a feature that helps reduce drive time and gas use by up to 40%.
Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.
Most people don’t know that I am trained as a mechanical engineer. Back in college, I spent one night making a MATLAB script that automated the design of wind turbine airfoils and fell in love with programming. While I learn as much as I can about different languages to support my consulting business, I occasionally encounter a frustrating programming problem that makes me think, “There has to be a better way. Coding should not suck this much.” In one of those moments of frustration, I stumbled upon Bubble. Ask any of my friends: they’ll tell you that I’ve been a Bubble fanatic ever since.
Why did you build your app on Bubble?
One of the most painful obstacles in testing out a business idea quickly and cheaply is having to “program” it. Even experienced programmers encounter errors while making digital products, which can delay a project for days, years, or possibly forever. Developing my business idea with Bubble has been insanely cheap and quick.
What has been your traction or success so far?
Despite being in the pre-release stage, we have quite a few happy customers, as well as interest from nearly 30 businesses, which has been very exciting. We are honored when our customers tell us that Mealfu is saving them time, money, and frustration. Building Mealfu has been so much fun!
What are your future plans for your app?
Because we are currently in the pre-release stage, we’re still refining the product. So far, customers who’ve used Mealfu have had a great deal of success, but more improvements are forthcoming. We are working on adding delivery route optimization and other features. You can check out the full list of what is to come on our website.
