We interviewed My Daily Workouts founder, Steven Junio, on building an app that helps people find and create exercise routines. Steven initially became interested in development by taking courses on Android app development before realizing that web apps were a better way to go for his own side projects. He stumbled upon Bubble and was impressed that the no-code platform enabled him to create advanced features without running into roadblocks.
What problem does your project solve?
Steven Junio: Our app guides people through their exercise routines. We offer over 1000+ routines, so users can find the one that best suits their needs. The app automatically generates new routines for people based on the muscle groups that they want to work out or strengthen.
How does your app work?
Users enter the site and browse an Instagram-style feed of workout routines. While we have created some of the routines, many are uploaded by our users. Users can also build a workout routine that matches their fitness objectives by using our “Custom Workout Generator.” They can create workouts for quite a few muscle groups, including abs, back, biceps, and chest.
Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.
Initially, I got into development by taking some Android app development courses. Eventually, I realized that web apps were better fits for my side projects, so I started researching web development and stumbled upon Bubble. I quickly discovered that it is relatively easy to build any project that I could imagine on the no-code platform, so I just stuck with it.
Why did you build your app on Bubble?
Bubble offers a fully managed web building solution, which has allowed us to customize and build My Daily Workouts quickly. With other platforms, we kept running into roadblocks that prevented us from building more advanced features. We have yet to run into that limitation with Bubble
What has been your traction or success so far?
While traction and growth have been on the slower side, we continue to receive positive feedback from users, who really seem to be benefiting from our platform.
What are your future plans for your app?
In the future, we’d like to build out a workout plan generator. Another feature in the pipeline is a tool that allows users to log the reps that they complete on each exercise, as well as save their routine history. We’re also working on using the BDK service to build a native iOS/Android app.
