We spoke with My-Trackr creators, Rahul Chitko and Subhash Pai, about building an app that helps businesses, individuals, and public health organizations conduct contract tracing in order to stop the spread of COVID-19. Chitko, Pai, and their team of talented high school students recognized that GPS-based contact tracing was not enough to stop the spread of coronavirus, so they decided to create an alternative solution. Given the urgent need for effective contact tracing, they decided to build their app on Bubble, which allowed them to accelerate their development process.

What problem does your project solve?

Rahul Chitko and Subhash Pai: With a highly infectious disease such as COVID-19, it is essential for businesses, individuals, and public health organizations to have contact tracing measures in place before resuming their day-to-day activities. Current contact tracing tools rely solely on GPS tracking, which has been proven to be ineffective. We wanted to build a contact tracing app that could be used on a larger scale, while avoiding the security concerns associated with apps that use GPS location.

How does your app work?

To use My-Trackr, you simply sign-up with a valid email address, and My-Trackr will generate a personal QR code for you. You can then use the site to record meetings with other individuals, by adding their emails or scanning their QR codes. My-Trackr also allows you to report if you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, or if you have taken a COVID-19 test. If you choose to report symptoms or an unfavorable test result, My-Trackr will then notify other users from your recorded meetings that someone in their network has certain symptoms or has been tested, as well as people who visited a location where someone reported an unfavorable test result.

Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.

Cyret Technologies, the creator of My-Trackr.com, is a technology, business consulting, product development, and robotic process automation provider based in Northern Virginia. Cyret's award winning services help organizations in industries such as healthcare, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, distribution, media, and logistics bring operational efficiencies, cost savings, and improved customer satisfaction.

Cyret uses low-code tools for its robotic process automation, which help automate repetitive, manual, and potentially error-prone human tasks. Unlike no-code tools like Bubble, these tools remain in the background of existing applications and seldom have capabilities to build a secure application itself.

Instrumental in the development of My-Trackr were 3 students - Advika Jhingran, Anavi Nayak, and Aaryan Dhore. Advika is a rising senior at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology, Alexandria, VA. Previously she was part of the CERN student team that helped construct a Multigap Resistive Plate Chamber to study cosmic rays. Anavi is a rising senior at Westwood High School, Austin, TX. Previously, she created a web mapping application with the Center for Space Research to visualize the impacts of flooding with the help of satellite datasets and API mapping. Aaryan is a rising senior at John Champe High School & Academy of Science, Lessburg, VA. Before this, he worked on deep learning algorithms to detect diseases (including COVID-19 and Pneumonia) with high validation accuracy using deep convolutional neural networks

Why did you build your app on Bubble?

Once we finalized the outline of My-Trackr, we began looking into tools or frameworks that would make it easier to build security, database communication, user interface, and device independence, thereby enabling us to rapidly enter the contact tracing market. To make things easier, we also needed a tool with a small learning curve so that we could optimize our development process. We found Bubble, and the no-code platform perfectly suited our needs.

What has been your traction or successes so far?

Version 1 of My-Trackr was launched on May 23rd and has already seen an increase in user registration. Since then, public awareness about, and concerns of, contact tracing has been increasingly prominent as well. We have also begun publicity campaigns to educate individuals and businesses on the necessity of contact tracing tools, as well as encourage them to register and begin using My-Trackr.

What are your future plans for your app?

My-Trackr will continue to evolve. We plan on adding features such as an SMS-based notification, additional reporting for business users, and actionable data analytics.
