We asked Help! founder, Jeff Ryan, about building an app that connects students with tutors for single-question tutoring. Jeff is a longtime developer with a PhD in mathematics from NYU. He chose Bubble because the no-code platform enabled a short time to launch, fast iteration, and compatibility with the API that makes Help! possible.
Tell us about your app and what it does.
Help! connects students to tutors for single-question tutoring. A student takes a photo of his question, and a few minutes later receives an answer and explanation. Tutors swipe through photos of questions and prices and answer the ones they like. We use AI to determine the subject, difficulty, and prices of questions to match questions to tutors, all invisible to users.
How does your app work?
A student takes a photo of the problem he’s stuck on, gets a price quote, and receives an answer/explanation a few minutes later. It’s really that simple.Tutors swipe through questions/prices that are in the subjects they want to see, take a photo of their answer, and earn money per-question.Students can grade their tutor after receiving an answer, which reinforces good learning experience.
Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.
I’m a longtime developer with a PhD in mathematics from NYU. I read about Bubble in a BBC article, and quickly realized it was by far the fastest way to launch and iterate Help!
Why did you build your app on Bubble?
Short time to launch, fast iteration, and compatibility with our AI API that makes Help! possible.
What have been your milestones or successes so far?
We are very recently launched, and have had both students and tutors using the platform from day one. US schools are currently on summer break, but we look forward to growing further once school reopens in September!
What are your next steps or future plans for your app?
To continue to grow our user base, enter markets outside the US, expand beyond the 12 subjects we currently support, and eventually build a fully automated question answering AI.
