We asked Kwello CEO and founder Christian Erb, about building a quality management software that enables users to manage standard operating procedures, job descriptions, and training logs. Christian has a background in finance but has built several startups across different industries. He chose Bubble because the no-code platform offers the possibilities and solutions he needed to build his app.
Tell us about your app and what it does.
Kwello is a quality management software and makes it easy to manage your standard operating procedures, job descriptions, and training logs. With KWELLO, you can centralize your quality management processes and documents in one place to make them available for all of your employees. Keep all of your SOPs, job descriptions, and training logs secure with our solution that includes complete versioning control.
How does your app work?
Each company has its private area. From there, users with a particular set of access rights (e.g., Admins) can create and manage documents that are needed within a quality management setting (e.g., Standard Operating Procedures, Job Descriptions, or Training Lists). You can assign those documents and training to a particular set of users (e.g., only project management staff or only online marketing people), and they will automatically be notified that they need to log in and conduct their training. The document management system has a complete version control which means that all of your documents and the changes you have made are fully tracked and that you can restore those documents. This comes in handy when you have an audit, and your auditor wants to see a previous version of a particular procedure and the training list that should come with it. All of this data is saved in KWELLO automatically.
Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.
My professional background is in finance, but I went into the startup industry shortly after graduating and built up startups across various industries. Just recently, I left the company I’ve founded and led as a CEO after six years. I consider myself a person with a bit of a technical understanding and some knowledge of traditional programming, but I never advanced so far to be a proficient coder.
During starting up the company, we relied a lot on Google Sheets and scripts we implemented that ensured that some WordPress Pages and Dashboards were being rendered automatically. So we hacked a lot of stuff together due to our limited technical resources, which drove me eventually into the no-code space. I discovered Bubble quite some time ago but only was able to dig deeper in the past 12 months, which convinced me to invest more of my resources into Bubble Development which led to my first more significant project with actual paying clients, which is now KWELLO.
Why did you build your app on Bubble?
I became pretty convinced of the potential of no code about 18 months ago, and I wanted to dive deep and get myself accustomed to the tools that are around. After some initial research, I decided that Bubble would be my go-to choice because of the strong community's possibilities. I defined some use cases for me that a platform should have for me to be successful, and Bubble checked all those boxes, and so far, all the use cases I wanted to display within my development, I’ve been able to find a solution within Bubble.
What have been your milestones or successes so far?
I am currently in the beta mode of my app. I released it some time ago and during the whole development process, but also today, I am in close contact with potential customers who are willing to try out KWELLO and give me some feedback. So I’d say one of my milestones is finding customers that are willing to use and pay for my application. On the development side, I recently redesigned KWELLO to be mostly responsive as I didn’t put a lot of emphasis on it when I launched initially, so figuring out the responsive engine is also somewhat of a milestone for me.
What are your next steps or future plans for your app?
I am slowly moving into the official launch, and my goal is to expand my existing customer base into more people who are willing to use my solution. So, besides continuously improving my app and adding new features like an e-signature process and a document archive, my short-term plans also rely on marketing and customer acquisition.
