We asked Paytable founder, Joel Rosen, about building an app that lets you easily add a member's area to your site to sell secure access to Airtable, Notion, Coda, Sheets, and more. Joel is a designer by trade and founded a design and digital agency in Bristol, UK. Joel chose Bubble because the no-code platform offered the best user interface (UI) and setup than other no-code options at the time
Tell us about your app and what it does.
Paytable lets you easily add a members area to your site to sell secure access to Airtable, Notion, Coda, Sheets and more. Paytable is built to monetize research and info products. Being a relatively new niche, selling access to curated information or saved content is about to boom as the info products and research-as-a-service industry becomes more defined.
How does your app work?
With Paytable you can create products that work like their own membership space. Within each product you have a members only dashboard where you can securely embed pretty much any document, from most popular every day apps including Airtable, Notion, Sheets, Coda and more.
Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.
I'm a designer by trade, I founded a design & digital agency here in Bristol, UK 10 years ago as well as founding an online course provider for designers 6 years ago (which after exiting the agency last September is what now pays my bills). After minimising my work week and with the freedom to explore new ideas I was able to start exploring some potential apps and nocode seemed the obvious way after spending 1000's on developers in the past.
Why did you build your app on Bubble?
Last September 2020, I did a bit of digging around to see what no-code app builders were available and I liked the UI and setup of Bubble more than other options at the time so stuck with it and just learnt as I went really.
What have been your milestones or successes so far?
I got the 1st MVP with paid tiers implemented launched in May this year, since then the metrics & feedback from the indie hacker & tech communities has bene pretty good!
- 732 users
- 132 products created
- 19 paying customers
- $250 MRR
To be honest, I've had keep product growth, new features etc at a steady pace. Being completely bootstrapped I've had to learn a TON about bubble, apis, stripe integrations & more. I still have lots of work to do and were currently still in public beta.
What are your next steps or future plans for your app?
I think some type of investment and sourcing funding is on the cards. The response from makers, indie-hackers and general product lovers has been incredible with many responses like this is going to be big! or, I cant believe this didn't exist.
I think it's an exciting time to be part of this new sub sector of membership style sites based around Info Products because it's a very profitable, easy to leverage style of business to run. For example we have some sellers at Paytable making over 1k a month. After they've curated their stack or database, the works is mostly done so it's leveraged sales while you sleep!
I think that's where Paytable has done well so far, it's a product that helps people earn money.
