We spoke with SFUSO founder, Luca Agea, about building an app that advises users to choose the best wine at the restaurant and home. Luca is a UX/UI designer who used to work at many startups in Boston for five years. As he searched for the best platform solution that can be built quickly without compromising flexibility, he discovered Bubble, a flexible and cost-effective platform that gives "the possibility to really build almost anything."
What problem does your project solve?
Our goal is to resolve the frustration of going through the wine list with the lack of knowledge in matching wine and food with your taste. We all have had that time at a restaurant, when the waiter comes and hands you the wine list, which is a book with pages and pages of wines you never heard of, always to order the same "Pinot Grigio."
How does your app work?
A smart sommelier is always in the users' pocket to advise the right wine pairing at the restaurant and ship it to their home directly. When at a restaurant, users can access SFUSO smart sommelier via their smartphone. The virtual sommelier guides them into a completely new and revolutionary menu interaction experience. SFUSO helps step-by-step with the food and wine selection for each course and learns more about their taste and habits every time the user uses the app. Users receive notifications with special offers of the same or similar wine they ordered at the restaurant previously and can buy it directly from the app. These habits are analyzed to improve the types of wine the users will receive at home.
Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.
I am a UX/UI designer. I have been working with startups in the Boston ecosystem for the past five years, and I help them develop their MVPs, always looking to the best fastest and affordable way to bring their ideas to market and test them. I discovered Bubble three years ago while looking for a great solution that could accommodate a quick development without compromising flexibility on what it can build. I believe that Bubble is still the only solution that gives the end-user the best control on what it can be built, allowing the possibility to really build almost anything.
Why did you build your app on Bubble?
I needed a cost-effective, flexible, and fast solution. Bubble allowed us to build our app in 1/3 of the time and probably at 1/5 of the usual cost.
What has been your traction or success so far?
We launched the iOS and Android app two weeks before COVID-19 hit the American market that caused the closure of many restaurants. Today, our product can be a game-changer. We are giving the restaurant the opportunity to provide the menu to their customers digitally, pull up the menu on their device by scanning a QR code in the restaurant, or download the iOS or the Android app to minimize unnecessary interaction between the staff and customers during a meal.
What are your future plans for your app?
Our goal is to launch the home delivery service for the wine and help restaurants during the post-COVID-19 reopening by giving them free access to our platform and a free digital menu that can be opened directly from the user's phone.
