We spoke with SIP Money founder, Wael Khattar, about building an app that helps people who live paycheck to paycheck manage and invest their money. Wael has a background in investment advisory and is the co-founder of Anachron Technologies, the parent company of SIP Money. With some free time on his hands, he decided to build SIP Money on Bubble to save on development costs.
What problem does your project solve?
Wael Khattar: Our goal is to help people better manage their money, especially those who live paycheck to paycheck. We want to help people save some portion of their salary, even if it’s just a small amount. That way, they can begin investing in their future (SIP stands for systematic investment plan, for those who don’t know the financial lingo).
How does your app work?
Users sign up and fill out information regarding their recurring monthly payments and other sources of income. Taking the user’s income into account, the app recommends a budget. By creating saving goals and allocating their budget strategically, users can learn how to better manage their expenses and make any necessary lifestyle changes. We want users to understand how they are spending their money.
Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.
Coming from a background in investment advisory, I have served as the co-founder of Anachron Technologies for the past couple of years. No-code tools have always intrigued me, especially since relying on developers to build solutions can be frustrating. However, I have always been disappointed with no-code platforms--that is, until I found Bubble.
Why did you build your app on Bubble?
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, our main business was stopped and our sales efforts were halted. I wanted to use my sudden influx of free time to build an MVP (minimum viable product) without using my main company’s development resources. When I mentioned my project to a friend, he recommended Bubble. As I become more familiar with Bubble, I’m beginning to think that we can build the whole solution on the no-code platform.
What has been your traction or success so far?
We are still in the early testing stage, which means that we have released the app to the public, but with very limited reach. At the moment, we are gathering feedback and making adjustments, thanks to the insights of our initial 100 users. Before going global, our goal is to have at least 100 users who love the product.
What are your future plans for your app?
In the near future, the users who commit to their budget will receive discounts and rewards. In addition, they will be able to invest their extra money with the help of a robo-advisor. Besides revamping the UI (user interface), we will be adding a feature that allows users to connect their bank account through the Plaid plugin.
