We asked Vistakast founder, Matthew Zisa, about building a video hosting/sharing platform that is more focused on content creators. Matthew has a background in computer science and is familiar with coding. He chose Bubble because of the no-code platform's ability to scale with business and user growth.
Tell us about your app and what it does.
Vistakast is a rival to YouTube as it is a video hosting and sharing platform. However, we are more content creator oriented and focused on investing into communities across the nation.
We believe this to be true as we intend to offer better deals for the content creators such as requesting 20% of Ad Revenue only vs YouTube’s demand for 30% of all revenue.
How does your app work?
When the user comes to the landing page, they will have the ability to search and find any videos they would like without having to sign up. However, by signing up and creating an account, the user will be able to subscribe and donate to their favorite content creators, leave comments and ask questions on any videos, the ability to upload and create a channel, and the ability to monetize your content. Thought of an idea but maybe somebody has a similar one on YouTube? Bring it over to Vistakast and be the first there!
Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.
So I am a computer science major and I’m familiar with coding actually. I utilize it in my professional life. So in my experience, it is not uncommon for us to create a tool that allows individuals to perform certain tasks or functions that would have normally taken experience or prior education of the subject. Oddly enough, a lot of these creations usually improved the speed in which actions could be completed allowing for more time to be invested in other challenges/obstacles. So with it being 2020, I figured there had to be a company that offered such services. Hence, I stumbled upon Bubble.
Why did you build your app on Bubble?
Well, I actually did come across quite a few options out there and had to do quite a bit of research of the competitions. There was one thing that really intrigued me that convinced me to give Bubble a chance. The fact that if the app has potential or starts seeing user growth that they would offer to assist and really help the application grow in any way they could.
Knowing that they probably have a team of experts who is familiar with their software, access to an excellent marketing team, a good vision of the future and what technology holds to the every day human, I am hoping to leverage Bubble’s resources and my visions and growing something very successful.
I also want it to be known that you don’t have to have this massive education, expert developing skills, access to thousands of dollars to build a social media platform like YouTube. Just time and dedication and the will to keep moving forward.
What have been your milestones or successes so far?
So far we’ve had a few users join up and provide positive feedback. We’re currently designing a Crowdsource competition to help solidify a name for the application as Vistakast was created to anchor the project down to get the ball rolling.
We have had successful contacts with successful content creators in hopes persuading them to give our site a chance. (Plus it’s free and they can monetize their content.)
Of course, being selected as the app of the day. This was pretty exciting news actually!
What are your future plans for your app?
Currently working on the ability to “upload by transfer” videos uploaded to other platforms such as YouTube, Rumble, Vimeo, etc to make it easier for the content creator transition.
Working on fixing up the mobile version and rolling out an app that can be downloaded from the site.
Currently, I am the only person working on the application, so potentially working with marketing teams to start advertising and getting the word out.
