We spoke with Incentiv founder and CEO, Matthew Haller, about building an app that automates the commissions calculation process for small and medium-sized businesses. As a management consultant for Deloitte, Matthew discovered that many companies spent millions of dollars on custom solutions that they ended up scrapping. So he decided to create his own business management application, and with the help of Bubble, was able to build a complex application quickly, play with data models, and much more.
What problem does your company solve?
Matthew Haller: Incentive automates the entire commissions calculation process for small and mid-sized companies. It provides real-time insights into rep earnings, organizes all sales contracts, and automatically provides insights and analytics so that you know exactly how every dollar of your commission budget is spent.
How does your app work?
Getting started with Incentiv is very simple. New customers upload two files - one for user access/permissions and another with pay/quota information for each of your users - and the Incentiv customer success team helps configure the backend of the system for the company's specific plans. From there, processing commissions is as simple as uploading a transaction report - and you can do it all in under 30 minutes.
Tell us a little about your background and how you discovered no-code tools like Bubble.
I was a management consultant at Deloitte, working on large scale technical implementations to support sales teams. I was frustrated that companies would spend millions of dollars on consultants who would build these custom solutions, only to have the entire build get scrapped before go-live because the business decided to change its strategy. There needed to be a more agile way for business management applications to work.
Why did you build your app on Bubble?
Bubble enabled me to rapidly build an extremely complicated application, test the UI, play with different data models, and connect to existing infrastructure so I could quickly pivot my features and designs as I learned more about my customers and their problems. Fast forward to being more experienced with Bubble now and I can't imagine building on anything else!
What has been your traction or success so far?
Incentiv has processed over $500,000 in commissions since its creation.
What are your future plans for your app?
We're working on solidifying the sales rep experience by adding a lightweight plan calculator so users will be able to see how much revenue they can generate under various performance scenarios. Beyond that, we're evolving our analytics platform to include guardrails and best practices that help monitor your commissions so there are no surprises when it's time to run payroll.
